Math is not the enemy

Another week done and dusted for my Masters of Teaching program. Thankfully week two seemed far less overwhelming, and I'm starting to get back into the groove of full-time study. So far a lot of the program has been seeking to unpick our existing assumptions about what "good" teaching looks like. For example, one assumption I had (which has now been challenged) is that to be a good math teacher, you must have been a good math student. It seems obvious, but is it actually true? I'll leave that one for you to ponder.

I also learned that Jo Boaler is the bees knees when it comes to thinking about math teaching. This neat video highlights a whole lot of (erroneous) assumptions that people can have about math, which I thought was worth sharing because I think many of the views being thrown down by these young learners are still prevalent (and holding students back).
